| Educational Aims
This course is a comprehensive core course which designed for 3rd & 4th year law majors. To be a successful talent under the circumstances of both global economy and global laws and regulations in the future, it is more important for students to master legal English well. Through the study of this course, students are required to be able to read sophisticated original legal works, do sound legal translation and analyze cases in English. More specifically, the main contents of the course rely on the overview of the basic legal systems, basic legal concepts, legal terms, particular legal expressions, style of legal texts, legal translation and method of case analysis, etc. Through learning this course, students may mainly broaden the scope of worldwide laws and regulations. Upon successful fulfillment of this course, students shall grasp the fundamental knowledge of laws and regulations well.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
1. Understand the main idea of the texts
2. Master some related legal terms
3. Conduct a series of reading, listening, speaking and writing activities related to the theme of the unit.
4. Complete a professional presentation on legal issues
5. Master the formal character of legal English
6. Make a comparison between Chinese laws and regulations and that of other countries
7. Understand the fundamental knowledge of law of the US and the UK mainly
8. Practice oral communication ability
9. Make a specific analysis on legal cases
Syllabus
This course comprises 8 units which includes almost 40 lessons. The main contents rely on some crucial legal regimes such as America legal system, constitutional law, contract law, negotiable instruments, property law, tort law, business law as well as corporate law. Four weeks shall be required to finish each unit.
